The following is a short book preview about and how conversations create relationships contributed by the Ohio State University Leadership Center.

Meetings Matter: 8 Powerful Strategies for Remarkable Conversations
Paul Axtell, Corvallis, OR: Jackson Creek Press (2015)

“Groups can build a sense of relationship and trust by having productive, thoughtful conversations as they work together, but there is a definite advantage of getting to know one another first.

When working with a group of people who see the potential to operate at a higher level together, my focus is on three things:

  • How can I improve the group’s ability to talk with one another?
  • How can our work together lead to more connection and trust within the group?
  • What does the group need to talk about?

Spending time getting to know one another in new ways increases the safety, authenticity, and quality of their group conversations (p.48).”

Meetings Matter is available from the OSU Leadership Center.
